Prof. Dr. Adel El-Beltagy is currently Chair of the International Drylands Development Commission (IDDC), Professor, Arid Land Agricultural Graduate Studies & Research Institute (ALARI), Ain Shams University, Egypt. Chair of the Food and Agriculture Research Council at the Egyptian Academy of Science. Member of the Advisory Board of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. Chair of the Executive Board of Bib Alex. Member of the Board of Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT).

He has served as Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation (2014/2015), President of the Governing Board of the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM) (2010/2014), Member of the Board of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (2006/2012).

He established the Arid Land Research Laboratory in 1981 at Ain Shams University The Central Laboratory for Computer Expert Systems 1989, The National Agricultural Genetic Engineering Laboratory (NAGL) 1990 at Agriculture Research Center, The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, and The National Committee for Protected Agriculture 1987. Professor, Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University, (1986 till now).


Awards:

Commander of the Order of Agricultural Merit, in recognition to his efforts in the International Agriculture Development, particularly in the Mediterranean countries (France, 2014). The Golden Medal of the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM) in recognition of enhancing the Agriculture Development in the Mediterranean (2015). Certificate of recognition from the board of the Global Crop Diversity Trust (2011).Certificate of recognition from The Association of Ariculture Research Institutions in Near East & North Africa AARINENA (2010), The Sultan Qaboos  'First Class' Order for Culture, Sciences and Arts for his contribution to the Development of Agriculture in the Dry Areas (2009). The 2008 State Recognition Prize in Sciences, Egypt. Honorary Doctorate of Science from the University of Khartoum Sudan (2006). The Golden Medal Award for achievements in agriculture from the Republic of Armenia. The Academic Status Award for contribution to the development of international cooperation in Agriculture from the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2006).  Elected as a member of L'INSTITUT D'EGYPTE (founded in 1798). Certificate of recognition from CGIAR. Certificate of recognition from Asia-Pacific Association of Ariculture Research Institutions.
